Thanksgiving

Last night while Brandon was trying to wrap up the final pages of one of two papers due today (not to mention that final he took this afternoon), I was really bored. I was trying to leave him alone, but that is really difficult for me. Finally he asked if I wanted a suggestion. Of course I did. He suggested I go to Blockbuster and get a movie. Being the good wife, I happily obliged.
No less than a half an hour later, after laboring over my decision very intensely, I settled on a French film. I though this would be the perfect time to catch up on my French a little--I'm a bit rusty at the moment. I brought the movie home, got my popcorn, favorite blanket and my pillow, turned off the subtitles (I was serious about catching up), and turned on the movie.
Not two minutes into it and the subtitles were back on. This was no ordinary movie; this was a French musical. Now I do like musicals. But sometimes they are difficult to understand in English. This musical was in French. So, I ended up watching this entire musical while reading the English subtitles (there were no French ones!). Needless to say, my head was sort of spinning from linguistic overload by the time the movie was finished. I think I understood a few phrases here and there, and I was definitely not bored. This was not a bad way to top off a good (long) weekend.

We had a great time on Thanksgiving. I cleaned out the "attic" in the morning, made a few yummy side dishes for dinner, and--with the help of Brandon--made sure our house was clean for our family...our adopted family that is. Charlie, Liz, Brent, and Jane all came over for dinner. Liz made the turkey, and the rest of us pitched in to make it a complete meal. We played "Apples to Apples" for several hours, and just enjoyed the evening together. James and Katie came over for dessert with James's parents. What a great day!
Friday and Saturday were spent relaxing, walking, doing homework (Brandon, not me), and playing more card games.
It was nice to have a long weekend, and now it is back to "le travail" for a few more weeks. Until the next vacation (or writing fancy)...
Au revoir.
